The bogeyman again?
Airports in India were on high alert Sunday after officials received hijacking threats involving flights to the United States or Europe, according to news reports. The Associated Press reported officials at international airports in India said they were tightening security and officials at the civil aviation ministry said additional safety measures were put in place following intelligence reports. Media reports said a U.S. Internet center received an e-mail saying there were plans to hijack a U.S. or Europe-bound flight from India. The center, which was not identified, gave the e-mail to the FBI which informed Indian intelligence, the report said. The AP said the report did not say who sent the e-mail or if any particular airport or airline was at risk.
That India story is everywhere, but there's also this one. Maybe just coincidence.
Prime Minister Hun Sen had given an order to tighten the security check at all the airports in the kingdom in order to combat any form of terrorist acts, illegal import and export of weapons, smuggling of drugs, and trans-national crimes, government spokesmanand Information Minister Khieu Kanharith told Xinhua here on Monday.
"we have already strengthened the security and safety (at all the airports in order to meet international management standard). We need to have good security for all our people," he said.
The prime minister instructed all airport staff members to focus on high-ranking government officials and diplomats, said the spokesman, adding that anyone who wanted to escape check of luggage needed to have permission letter from Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
I have no doubts "security alerts" will be issued fairly regularly in the next few months to keep US scared enough to tell the Dems not to change the Patriot Act or the Department of Homeland Security. These things make sense and should be abolished or radically changed, but the people have to understand this and they may not get the info they need hiding under their beds.
BTW, hiding under the bed is the best way to fend off the bogeyman. Worked for many years for me and I'm alive to tell you this.
I be keeping my eyes open.
