Toyota President: 'I Take Full Responsibility'

Akio Toyoda (president of Toyota Motor Corp.)

There's that fucking word again: responsibility. Toyoda says he's responsible. And? God damn, man, we already knew that. Now exactly what will you do to take responsibility? What will be your consequences? Will you step down as president of Toyota? What does the word mean to you?

Akio Toyoda, the grandson of the founder of Toyota Motor Corp. and the company's current president, told a congressional committee Wednesday he takes full responsibility for the safety problems in its vehicles and promised to make significant changes to quality control procedures.

"In the past few months our customers have started to feel uncertain about the safety of Toyota vehicles and I take full responsibility for that," he said in testimony before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

"I myself, as well as Toyota, am not perfect. In the name of the company, its longstanding tradition and pride, we never run away from our problems or pretend we don't notice them. That is the core value we have kept closest to our hearts since the founding of the company."
