A Follow-up To That Last Post


Americans want the troops brought home. Now I'm sure no military commanders want to just order everyone to run for the ships home. Any withdrawl will have to be tactical and orderly, but I have one thing to ask of whoever begins the withdrawl:

Please bring the equipment home too.

Before visiting the Philippines, I did some research on the country. You know, exchange rates, customs, traditions, best places to eat. Just the usual stuff. Well, I ran into something interesting.

The dominate form of public transportation is the Jeepney. These are little buses built from Jeeps. When the US withdrew the troops from the country, they left behind thousands of perfectly good Jeeps. The enterprising natives grabbed those Jeeps and built small buses out of them. Thus starting a whole industry using free vehicles.

Don't leave stuff in Iraq? OK?

Oh yes, that is how they get loaded down with people and their belongings. In fact, the Jeepney pictured isn't even full compared to many.
